Afterschool Art Show

Last month, Our 5th and 6th grade students proudly showcased their creativity and hard work during the Gloria J. Parks Art Showcase, an evening centered on Project-Based Learning (PBL), student engagement, and family involvement. Through this hands-on learning experience, students explored the artistic styles, historical significance, and cultural impact of three influential masterpieces and artists: Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night.

This project allowed students to not only create artwork inspired by these iconic pieces, but also encouraged them to independently research, learn about history, and understand the time periods in which these artists lived. By connecting art with history and storytelling, students gained a deeper appreciation for creativity, expression, and the world around them.

Families and community members were invited to experience the gallery-style showcase, where parents proudly viewed the incredible work their children created throughout the program. The excitement, confidence, and inspiration shown by our students reflected the positive impact meaningful arts education can have on youth development and learning.

We are incredibly proud of our 5th and 6th grade students for their dedication, creativity, and willingness to learn through art, history, and self-expression.
