Construction picks up at 993 Kensington Avenue
Construction is well underway at 993 Kensington Avenue, where the former Frobach’s Flower Shop is being covered into three 3-bedroom apartments.
The University District Community Development Association (UDCDA) is partnering with the City of Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency (BURA) to use HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds in the rehabilitation project. Construction on these new affordable housing units began in December 2015 and have a tentative completion date of November 2016, will full occupancy planned for by Spring 2017. In a community where roughly 2 out of 5 residents are of school age (double the city-wide rate), two-thirds of households are headed by a single parent, and over 60% of homes were constructed prior to 1939, quality, family-sized rental units are in high demand.
